The attributive item that accompanies one of his compositions informs us that he was “a resident of Leon”. Lacking, however, his surname, it’s difficult to make a minimum identification. Nevertheless, the activity of this leonese minstrel, clearly datable to the epoch of Afonso IV, that is, in the final period of the galician-portuguese poetry, would have occurred essentially in Portugal. In fact, by dating his pranto (mourning) on the death of King Denis from 1325 and his cantiga de loor (song of praise) to his successor, Afonso IV, possibly from about ten years later, Resende de Oliveira1 infers that maybe he would have stayed at the service of Dom Pedro, count of Barcelos (to whom the praise is also extended in this last composition).Bibliographic references
