Medieval troubadour

Portuguese troubadour, active in the first half of the 14th century, that is, in the final stage of the Galician-Portuguese poetry. Son of Martim Vasques Pimentel and Constança Martins de Resende, Dom Vasco inherited the honor of Resende, in the Douro region, from where his maternal family originated. Present in the royal court in the second decade of that century, he seems to have taken the side of King Denis in the civil war caused by the monarch’s conflict with the prince heir, Dom Afonso (1319-1324), since he is one of the judges appointed by the monarch to make sure the terms of final truce between the two camps were fulfilled. After Afonso IV’s ascent to the throne he remains, however, in the court, being one of the nobles that served as hostages in the peace treaty between Afonso IV and Afonso IX of Castile, signed in 1327.He was married thrice, first with Teresa Rodrigues Ribeiro, then with Guiomar Martins de Avô, and finally (before 1329) with Mecia Vasques de Azevedo. He would have died around the mid-14th century (between 1343 and 1357).
