Dirigindo-se à mãe, a moça conta que, vendo vir barcas no mar, foi até lá esperá-las para ver se nelas vinha o seu amigo (pelo qual morre de amor, como diz em refrão). Mas não o encontrou.Note-se que a última estrofe sai fora do esquema geral do paralelismo, até aí perfeito (deveria começar: e non'o pud'achar). Tanto é possível que seja uma variação voluntária, como é possível que seja efeito de uma tradição manuscrita deturpada (neste caso, podendo mesmo faltar uma estrofe final à cantiga).
